Lorenzo destroys Rossi pole attempt

Yamaha riders and title contenders Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo put a splendid show in qualifying breaking lap record after lap record in a bid to grab pole position for the Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi with Lorenzo coming top.

Lorenzo ruled all practice sessions while Rossi the championship leader struggled to find a perfect setup and eventually started fighting for pole in the Qualifying session - Q2. The fight between the two team mates and championship contenders looking to establish a psychological advantage in the championship battle continued till the last seconds of the session.

Lorenzo broke the lap record to set provincial pole while Rossi responded with another record lap to get ahead of his team mate but the Spaniard retook top position at the final seconds with a stunning sector time with another record lap and sealing pole fro his team mate.

Marquez on the Repsol Honda came in 3rd fastest while Ducati rider Dovizioso heads row 2 ahead of team mate Andrea Iannone and Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa.
